My Journey with Devasena Miss in Bharatanatyam and Music!

Om Tat Sat!

As William Arthur Ward rightfully says,

‘A mediocre teacher tells.

                A good teacher explains.

                                The superior teacher demonstrates,

                                                and the Great teacher inspires!’

Devasena Miss is a qualified Bharata Natyam Artist, Nattuvanar, Carnatic Vocalist, and Yoga Exponent. In her career of nearly 30 years, she has performed more than 5 hundred Bharata Natyam recitals in many places! She was also honored the "Yoga Chemmal" award by the Pondicherry Yogasana Association!

I am fortunate to learn Bharata Natyam and Carnatic Music virtually from Devasena Miss, who is truly an inspiration and a role model for all of her students!

Personally, I don’t even know how she manages to point out the little of the little of the littlest mistakes we make during dancing! She is endowed with the superpower; to correct students through online classes!

It’s a true bliss to hear Miss sing melodious bhajans in Music classes where she gets fully engrossed in them and has a voice that comes from the heart, a voice full of devotion and love for the god!

Both the sisters (Lalitha Miss and Devasena Miss); shown above, have a tendency to check whether we are paying attention in class or not, whether we are alert on what’s going on, by dodging questions at unexpected times!

I especially admire that even when she’s sick or isn’t feeling well, she is sure to come and  observs Vidya Shankari ka teaching the classes ,though she isn’t teaching, she will always pinpoint  and give the slightest of corrections  to us on our dance moves , which is amazing, you can’t escape her eagles’ eye!

Another thing I love about Devasena Miss is that she is a true Giver! She gives(teaches) from her heart, without thinking of What will I GET? I am trying to absorb this quality of giving and sharing without expectation!

Once in our class, Miss was explaining something, and my sister, Niyati, sneezed! Even though we were muted, when Miss finished speaking, she didn’t forget to say ‘Bless you’! What an awareness 😮!!!)

For me, my teacher is:

D- Dazzling Devasena Miss

E- Expressions are her forte!

V- Vocalist

A- An inspiration

S- Superwoman

E- Everlasting amount of energy

N- Never takes anything on the heart! Always Happy and Smiling!

A- A true blessing
