Māyā jāla... UNinstalling in progress

 Māyā jāla... UNinstalling in progress

One thing I would like to uninvent..!

From ready-to-cook and ready-to-eat to ‘let us cook and you eat’ – the latest mode of ordering food has taken the world by storm, especially in the COVID 19 pandemic. The art of cooking was only getting easier until we removed the human factor out of it completely. What happens when you tap and order food? You get a ready-made platter of creamy goodness, laced in delicious butter and fatty convenience. Care to take a bite?

You definitely get the food right in your hands with just a click. And that’s why instead of reaching for pots and pans, nowadays people are reaching for their phones and computers. The world today is driven by technology. The main purpose of an online ordering system was to provide customers for a way to place an order at a restaurant over the internet. This was mainly for disabled people who couldn’t cook nor go to eat. But nowadays, everything you need is a touch away, which is available for everybody! And when it comes to food, we are being spoon-fed by applications that help us tap and order. Ordering food by tapping your screen literally accounts to no energy expended and you end up ordering more food than you can consume. We barely even know what we are eating!

Its not only the lovely yummy-looking food pictures on the app and a small but highlighting banner of cashback offer. Well, it must be healthy or tasty in some way, but like its widely said, you can’t judge a book by its cover, in the same way you can’t judge the food’s ingredients by the picture on the app, huh?

Some of the famous mobile apps for ordering food in India include Zomato, Foodpanda, Swiggy, FoodMingo, TastyKhana and JustEat. Food delivery is becoming such a trend that delivery-only kitchens are springing up in every corner.

According to surveys, 33% of shoppers state they would pay a higher charge for quicker delivery services. Well, there are so many people who say that our expenses aren’t enough, we’re short of money, but most of them do have money to online order, that to pay higher charge!

Well, in fact, according to a study of the UN, they predict there could be a scenario where by 2030 most meals currently cooked at home are instead ordered online and delivered from either restaurants or central kitchens.

The vicious cycle continues to loop us, and so caught are we in a web spun by these apps, that there is no way out.

How much ever of a boon it might be, from the part that we get food according to our convenience or we can lay on our couch on the days we’re just lazy, its slowly making us inhumane, ignorant, and many other problems develop!

While ordering food, have you ever thought about the delivery boy?

Whether it is a heatwave boiling down the city or it is snowing or raining heavily, a Delivery Boy is waiting outside the restaurant to pick and deliver your order. This is one of the biggest disadvantages of ordering food online.

Although we get the joy of our favourite food in any season, they are also humans who forget their human rights putting themselves in danger sometimes. We can’t just be so selfish? And especially in the pandemic, where the demand for online ordering has risen up, they are risking their lives, to satisfy somebody else’s hunger?

On top of that, we are Juggling with our own health!

We can get food even at odd hours, and that’s disrupting our food cycle which makes us really impatient! It also creates an Isolated Disconnect

Dining at a restaurant is an exciting and delicious experience, meant to be shared with family and friends. Consumers lose the restaurant ambiance and dining interaction when opting to utilize an online food delivery service. Eating in solitude with only your favorite streaming shows to accompany you fosters an attitude of isolationism, slowly disconnecting you from the outside world. Not that you should go and meet people in today’s situation, but don’t just be stuck with food, and TV shows all day long, or food will be your only friend!

So, from next time just ask yourself before you tap – are you ordering smart, how much do you need and why are you ordering?

And this is something that probably couldn’t be uninvented, so according to me, if we can’t uninvent it, uninstall the food ordering apps!

Thank you!

(P.S. This isn't a sponsored ad for any food company! It includes my opinion of this topic!)

*Authors note: As an assignment in the English Subject, we had give a speech on one thin we would like to uninvent! Therefore, I thought that Online food ordering apps should be uninvented! 😃
